Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, Toronto /
Diamond Schmitt Architects
situation:
Four Seasons Centre is Toronto’s new home of the Canadian Opera Company. Opened in June 2006, Canada’s first and much-anticipated opera house has received acclaim from press, patrons and performers alike.
assessment:
The building was designed by Diamond Schmitt with Fisher Dachs Associates participating as the Theatre Consultants.
The focus of the building is the main performance space, the 2000-seat R. Fraser Elliot Auditorium.
solution:
Working with Bob Essert of Sound Space Design, Aercoustics was responsible for noise control design and site supervision.
results:
All interior and exterior noise has been reduced to the threshold of hearing – for the average listener, the room is perfectly quiet. The result is one of the quietest opera houses in the world.
testimonial:
“Surely the quietest large building in the country.”
