The Challenge:
The Scarborough Subway Extension project aims to provide faster and more reliable transit service to the residents of Scarborough, one of the most populous and diverse areas of Toronto. However, the project faces several challenges, such as:
- Constructing a 7.8-km bored tunnel and associated structures in a dense urban environment.
- Minimizing the noise and vibration impacts on the surrounding communities and businesses during the construction, as per Metrolinx’s requirements.
- Coordinating with multiple stakeholders, including the Contracting Authority, the client, and the public.
The Innovation:
Aercoustics is currently delivering all aspects of construction noise and vibration monitoring under the contract’s environmental obligations. We have implemented our state-of-the-art noise and vibration monitoring system (with up to 25 monitors deployed at strategic locations), developed effective mitigation strategies, and provided support and guidance to the Contracting Authority.
