Transit System Permanent Monitor

Location:

  • Eastern Canada

The Challenge:

Surface vibration caused by rail and wheel conditions is a major issue for the TTC subway system, as it affects the comfort and safety of passengers and the environmental quality of the surrounding area. Traditional methods of monitoring and reducing vibration are insufficient, as they rely on manual inspections, outdated data, and costly interventions.

The Innovation:

“Aercoustics has developed and installed a permanent vibration monitoring system for the TTC subway system. This is the first system of its kind to be installed with the TTC. The system uses advanced sensors and software to measure and analyse vibration levels in real time. The data collection and analysis provide continuous statistical and trending analysis of the subway fleet, and enable proactive and preventive measures to ensure the optimal operation of the subway system.

The system and resulting mitigation has proven to be effective in reducing vibration levels and improving the performance of the subway system. It also offers a potential for scalability and replication, as it can be applied to other subway lines and stations, and to other modes of transportation. The system helps identify the most efficient application of precious maintenance resources.”
