Streetcar Rail Boot Testing

Location:

  • Eastern Canada

The Challenge:

To improve the vibration performance of embedded streetcar tracks using a new rail boot design, and to test its compatibility with both the current and the future streetcar vehicles. The ultimate goal was to improve potential impact on community vibration levels.

The Innovation:

Aercoustics designed and executed a comprehensive study that measured and compared the vibration levels of the existing and the new rail boot designs, using both the old Articulated Light Rail Vehicle and the newer Low Floor Light Rail Vehicle streetcars. The study involved a direct comparison of the vibration measurements, as well as advanced data processing and analysis techniques.

We evaluated the performance of the new rail boot design, and provided recommendations for its implementation and optimization, also assessing the impact of the new streetcar vehicles on the vibration performance of the tracks.
