Acoustics for student housing.

In the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, the Vanderbilt University Graduate Village will provide a unique living-learning opportunity that will feature a 600-bed residential component, retail, a fitness room, and collaborative workspaces open to all graduate and professional students. While this mixed-use building will provide an opportunity for students to engage and learn beyond the classroom, the multiple types of spaces can prove to be a challenge acoustically. With this in mind, we worked to ensure that noise from neighboring rooms would be mitigated to ensure that students are comfortable throughout the building. The project was scheduled to have a lightweight construction for the floors, which could allow impact noise such as people walking or moving furniture to be easily heard in the level below. To ensure this would be avoided and to meet IBC guidelines, Aercoustics assisted in selecting the floor assembly to ensure appropriate mitigation.
