The Challenge:
Aercoustics provided acoustic design in support of the Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital (formerly Mackenzie Vaughan Hospital), which includes an emergency department, diagnostic imaging, surgical services, and acute inpatient and intensive care beds. This is Vaughan’s first hospital and the first smart hospital in Canada. Specialized services include obstetrics, paediatrics, Mental Health and the York Region District Stroke Centre. The project was executed under a design-build-finance-maintain P3 delivery model. The $1.3 billion, 1,200,000 sf hospital required significant coordination to achieve stringent performance specifications across many acoustically sensitive service areas.
The Innovation:
Aercoustics provided full service acoustic, noise, and vibration design services including architectural design support, Acoustic Assessment Report (AAR) for Environmental Activity and Sector Registry (EASR), Environmental Noise Impact Study, and commissioning. We helped achieve noise and vibration targets for diagnostic imaging, patient comfort from emergency to neonatal and mental health units. This project demonstrated our acoustic design experience under the design-build-finance-maintain P3 delivery model for healthcare.
