The Challenge:
Delivering to the stringent standards of a high-tech learning facility including vivarium, behavioural study suites, and various sensitive microscopes – including controlling noise and vibrations in a bridge linking the institute to a busy Toronto hospital.
The Innovation:
Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute is an extension on St. Michael’s Hospital, located in the core of downtown Toronto. Aercoustics provided acoustic design services including architectural noise and vibration controls, sound isolation recommendations, noise and vibration control for the sensitive labs and lecture spaces and environmental noise control and vibration modelling for the glass pedestrian bridge linking the institute to the rest of the hospital.
The 200+ lecture theatre required acoustics suitable for distance learning, ie. very low background sound and proper room acoustics, so both lecturer and audience members could be heard.
