The Challenge:
To ensure that noise from neighboring rooms would be mitigated and that students are comfortable throughout the multi-use building.
The Innovation:
Set in the heart of Nashville, Tennessee, the LEED Gold certified Vanderbilt University Graduate Village provides a unique living-learning opportunity that features a 600-bed residence, retail, a fitness room, and collaborative workspaces open to all graduate and professional students. While this mixed-use building provides an opportunity for students to engage and learn beyond the classroom, the multiple types of spaces can be a challenge acoustically. The project has a lightweight construction for the floors, which could allow impact noise such as people walking or moving furniture to be easily heard on the level below. To ensure this would be avoided and to meet IBC guidelines, Aercoustics assisted in selecting the floor assembly to ensure appropriate mitigation.
