The Challenge:

To create a truly public gathering space that can be enjoyed by all on Halifax’s busy and noisy waterfront land. In keeping with the spirit of the Mi’kmaq term, Mawiomi, meaning a gathering place and gathering of people, every area of the AGNS will be used for gathering which presented some interesting acoustic challenges.

The Innovation:

The project represented a radical shift in public building design in Canada by having the building and landscape integrated, thereby taking full advantage of the urban placement and harbour connection. The Aercoustics team supported this program with full services including flexible acoustics for formal and informal gathering and performance spaces, and by protecting galleries from the noise and disruption of the busy harbourfront.
